Bill’s rural life slips sideways the morning the birds vanish. Technology fails in unnatural ways, trees creep toward his house when he is not looking, and a woman in a red dress watches him from the treeline with eyes that do not belong in any living skull. As loops tighten and the world develops seams like a faulty program, Bill realises he is not losing his mind. He is being recruited by something old, patient, and impossibly familiar. The deeper he digs, the more the land itself begins correcting him, pulling him toward a name he does not recognise but somehow remembers: Ca-Lie Jun.
